A Twitch chat bot for streamers

About 7 minutes. Free on Twitch's side.

While you're live, your chat asks the same things over and over: where's your Discord, what are your specs, when do you stream. A chat bot answers instantly, reminds new viewers to follow, and removes spam - so you can keep your eyes on the game.

1. Use a separate account for the bot

Create a second Twitch account for the bot (for example yourname_bot). Messages then clearly come from a bot, and your own account's login never sits in any tool.

2. Register an application and get a token

  1. Signed in as the bot account, go to dev.twitch.tv/console and register an application. Copy its Client ID.
  2. Create a user access token for that Client ID with these scopes: chat:read, chat:edit, user:read:chat, user:write:chat and moderator:manage:chat_messages.
  3. Paste the Client ID, the token and your channel name into the bot's Connect page. It checks the scopes and tells you if one is missing.

3. Make the bot a moderator

In your own chat, type /mod yourname_bot. Moderators can delete messages, and Twitch lets them send messages faster without being rate limited.

4. Commands viewers actually use

!socials  => Follow me: twitter.com/you · instagram.com/you
!discord => Join the community: discord.gg/yourlink
!lurk => {user} is lurking - thanks for the support! 💜
!specs    => Ryzen 7 · RTX 4070 · 32 GB

Keep answers to one line - Twitch chat moves fast and long messages get buried.

5. Timers that don't annoy

Timers post a message every few minutes. Two rules keep them welcome:

Bamboo Bot's Streamer kit template sets up the commands and timers together; timers can run every 5 minutes or more.

6. Moderation

Add the Moderation template to delete banned words and links from non-moderators, and flood protection for copy-paste spam. Broadcaster and moderator badges are recognised automatically, so your mods are never removed.
